Rebranding for the West-Island Music Academy

Brief

The West-Island Music Academy is a music school established in 2010 with a focus on personalized lessons for all ages, providing a supportive and fun environment to learn and play music.

The mandate was to create a complete rebrand for the academy, starting from a new logo leading to various brand applications and a creative imagining of how far the branding system can go towards giving the academy a new identity.

Process

In order to create an effective rebrand, I had to conduct a thorough research on the academy and its values. I decided to place a focus on their fun-based approach, and how that compares to more traditional and disciplined academies. With that in mind, I created a logo that was symbolic of the loose style of teaching at the school,

The logo has a clear repetition to represent the many patterns that make up music as a whole. The final logo consists of an edited version of the FatFrank typeface, altering the A and doubling it to create the W and M. When read from left to right, the logo goes up and down like a sound wave.

Afterwards, I created a set of 4 characters to portray different instruments taught at the school and give the students icons named after influential artists to connect to.  In my branding applications, I created branding for fictional concerts the academy might put on and different sets of musical patterns to decorate various objects.
